About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to join our specialist HIV Mental Health Team. As a Consultant Psychiatrist in HIV Care, you will provide mental health assessment and brief treatment for HIV patients, working closely with the HIV clinical team to provide collaborative trauma-informed care.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage patients with complex mental health disorders related to their HIV diagnosis
  • Provide psychiatric follow-up appointments and brief interventions
  • Consult with the HIV clinical team and external services on mental health management and care of patients living with HIV
  • Collaborate with HIV clinical psychologists to offer joint assessments and consultations
  • Onward referral of patients requiring support from other services
  • Assess and manage risk, sharing concerns with others involved in patient care
  • Advise on psychiatric medication needs and interactions with ARVs
  • Care planning and treatment formulation for patients seen in outpatient clinic
  • Write high-quality assessment and treatment reports

Person Specification

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications
  • Good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
