Job Title: Specialist Clinical Pharmacist - Respiratory

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Clinical Pharmacist to join our Respiratory team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a specialized clinical pharmacy service to our respiratory patients, including those with complex interstitial lung disease, chronic severe asthma, COPD, and cystic fibrosis.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clinical pharmacy, with experience in developing and implementing medicines and service-related policies for a specialty. They will also have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Specialist Clinical Pharmacist will be responsible for:

  • Leading on a particular aspect (or aspects) of the clinical pharmacy service to the specialty.
  • Actively participating in consultant-led ward rounds to promote and support medicines optimisation, antimicrobial stewardship, and effective discharge planning.
  • Providing an advanced level of clinical pharmacy service to the specialty.
  • Involvement in education and training of a variety of healthcare professionals, including diploma and trainee pharmacists, undergraduates, and trainee advanced nurse practitioners.

The successful candidate will have a strong passion for respiratory medicine and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. They will also have excellent organizational skills and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Person Specification
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Diploma/MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Qualified as an independent prescriber.
Experience
  • Experience of delivering a clinical pharmacy service to a specialty.
  • Experience of developing and implementing medicines and service-related policies for a specialty.
  • Experience of training and education of both pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Experience in undertaking, supervising, and reporting/presenting audit/research work at local (Trust) level.
  • Experience of working actively on national groups.
Communication and Relationship
  • Evidence of independence and team working skills.
  • Evidence of successful business case completion.
Analytical and Judgement
  • Experience of assessing and minimising risk associated with service provision and within medication processes.
  • Evidence of incorporating innovative and 'best practice' into current practice.
Planning and Organisation
  • Evidence of excellent organisational skills.
