About the Role

The Data Allocation Committee Chair will play a crucial role in evaluating requests for data usage, processing, and access for research purposes, ensuring compliance with HRA and ethical approvals, and adherence to Data Protection Legislation.

The Chair will guide the committee in navigating new questions in healthcare AI, drawing from the expertise of committee members. A strong understanding of the NHS and senior stakeholder management is essential, rather than a deep knowledge of AI, data protection, or ethics.

The successful candidate will be supported by the AI Ethics and Governance Lead, who will manage the day-to-day research governance, including the DAC. The Lead will draft agendas, prepare documentation, and brief the Chair for each meeting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate requests for data usage, processing, and access for research purposes
  • Ensure compliance with HRA and ethical approvals
  • Adhere to Data Protection Legislation
  • Guide the committee in navigating new questions in healthcare AI
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders

Person Specification

  • At least 10 years of experience working in the NHS in a clinical role
  • Senior/executive level experience in the NHS
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical research
  • Ability to chair a group of senior stakeholders
  • Experience of implementing PPI strategies
  • Desirable: leading an organizational change project
