About the Role

Our world-leading team at the National Physical Laboratory are seeking an experienced Scientist to develop innovative uses of ultra-precise measurements over optical fibre links.

This permanent, full-time position offers a generous salary and benefits package. You'll enjoy collaborating with prominent Scientists and Engineers to design, build, and perform cutting-edge experiments on optical fibre systems and links.

Responsibilities include sharing responsibility for the development of research on applications of ultra-stable interferometry for scientific and societal applications, such as earthquake detection, ocean signal monitoring, and distant atomic optical clock comparison.

You'll have the opportunity to publish your work in high-impact academic journals and present it at prestigious international conferences.

About You

As a team player with a proactive attitude, you'll work closely with a Senior Scientist to develop applications of ultra-stable interferometry, including the dissemination of ultra-stable signals and detecting earthquakes with seafloor optical cables.

Essential requirements include a PhD in a photonics-related subject, laboratory experience, and practical experience with laboratory electronics and coding for experiment control and data analysis.
