We are seeking an experienced Scientist - Photonics / Optical Frequency Metrology to develop innovative uses of ultra-precise measurements over optical fibre links. This permanent, full-time position comes with a generous salary and benefits package, approximately £60,000 per annum. As a member of our world-leading department, you will collaborate with prominent Scientists and Engineers to conceive, design, build state-of-the-art ultra-stable setups for innovative tests on optical fibre systems and links.
Your Responsibilities
Share responsibility for the development of research on applications of ultra-stable interferometry for various scientific and societal applications, including earthquake and tsunami detection using seafloor cables, ocean signal monitoring, distant atomic optical clock comparison over fibre links, and advanced laser stabilisation techniques. You will also publish your work in high-impact academic journals and present it at prestigious international conferences, contributing to a rapidly growing field of research.
About You
Reporting to a Senior Scientist, you will enjoy developing applications of ultra-stable interferometry. To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrable laboratory experience, practical and recent experience with laboratory electronics, a PhD in a photonics-related subject or equivalent experience, proven experience coding for experiment control and data analysis, exceptional written and oral communication skills, and team player with a proactive attitude.
