Senior Scientific Director

At the National Physical Laboratory, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible. As a key member of our Climate and Earth Observation group, you'll have the opportunity to drive forward a programme of research that leverages NPL expertise to bridge the gap between Earth Observation and climate modelling communities.
In this role, you will combine your interpersonal and analytical skills to engage internal and external stakeholders, identify and secure opportunities for novel work, and promote the value of metrology and EO data within the climate modelling community.
With a focus on leadership and research design, you'll guide a team of scientists at the interface of earth observation and climate models for climate relevant science, grounded in the application of metrological principles.
Your vision for technical area, its application and impact to address national and international climate challenges will be key to this role, and you'll work collaboratively with the Group Leader and senior scientists to align this to NPL's strategy.
You'll be expected to lead and inspire a team of experts, driving collaboration and enhancing activity to optimise commercial opportunities. As a world-class expert in your field, you'll thrive in an environment where we learn from each other, respect each other, and work together to do better.
About You
We're looking for a proven scientific leader with expertise in climate modelling to join our team. As a world leader in metrological traceability, quality assurance, and fitness-for-purpose assessments of Earth Observation, satellite and in situ instrumentation and their data products, you'll be well-equipped to drive forward our climate modelling research and collaboration with international initiatives such as WCRP and ESA's Climate Space Programme.
Your skills in leadership, research design, and technical expertise will be crucial in guiding our team to identify and secure opportunities for novel work, promoting the value of metrology and EO data within the climate modelling community.
