About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Coding Team Lead to join our team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Coding Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of clinical coding across the Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely clinical coding is carried out within strict timescales, using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications, and adhering to national coding standards and local clinical coding policies.
  • Collect, collate, and code clinical information, highly complex in nature, covering a wide range of specialties, including highly sensitive and emotionally distressing patient medical records.
  • Maintain high productivity by ensuring high-quality work is completed by required timescales.
  • Liaise with line managers to confirm appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes where national guidance is unclear.
  • Regularly liaise with and update managers and senior colleagues regarding deficiencies and ambiguity in clinical documentation to facilitate discussions with clinical teams and other departments to improve clinical documentation provided for coding purposes.
  • Raise data quality issues to Coding Managers and act as a mentor to Coders and Trainees/Apprentices within the department.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings to ensure knowledge and learning points are received and communicated.
Requirements
  • National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
  • Appropriate experience in coding of a wide range of specialties
  • Supervisory and mentoring experience
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Sound knowledge of Payment by Results, Health Care Resource Groups, and any other relevant subgroups
  • Evidence of good working relationships within a team
  • IT proficiency
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills
