About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Governance Lawyer to join our team at the Financial Conduct Authority. As a key member of our Governance Team, you will play a critical role in advising on key elements of our decision-making process, ensuring that our regulatory activities are compliant with public law.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice on public law matters, including regulatory, governance, and litigation work.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to advise on high-profile and sensitive issues, ensuring that our regulatory activities are compliant with public law.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including the Bank of England and HM Treasury, to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including the Information Disclosure Team, Risk & Compliance, Whistleblowing, and Corporate Governance.
  • Contribute to the promotion of a positive and inclusive culture within the team and the wider organization.
Requirements
  • Qualified Lawyer (solicitor, barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive) with at least 3 years' relevant PQE (in-house, public sector, or private practice) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of advising on public law, including public law litigation.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver good and clear analysis of issues.
  • Ability to learn about new or novel legal issues quickly and with enthusiasm.
  • Ability to create solutions and deliver pragmatic outcome-focused judgements.
  • Ability to advise in a confident and reasoned manner, and to challenge appropriately.
  • Ability to build and sustain positive relationships and good communication skills.
