Job Introduction

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Operations to lead our Distribution Network in the Midlands area. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing, operating, and maintaining our network efficiently and effectively, ensuring high levels of customer service and compliance with relevant legislation and standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate Team Managers to effectively undertake their duties, driving performance and accountability.
  • Set objectives, monitor, and drive performance, taking accountability for Distribution activities in the Distribution Area.
  • Coordinate the formulation of Capital and Revenue Budgets for the Distribution Area, monitoring and controlling expenditure.
  • Ensure customers in the Distribution Area receive the highest standard of service, commensurate with their needs and agreed standards.
  • Resolve customer complaints in the Distribution Area successfully.
  • Develop, operate, and maintain the Distribution System efficiently and effectively, in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and standards.
  • Promote good employee relations, creating an environment that motivates and encourages individual development.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering strategy, policy, and objectives.
  • Develop individuals to lead in accordance with National Grid values, creating a team environment that leads to successful output.
  • Liaise with peers and key stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes for the operational business area.
  • Deal with a wide range of problems, from technical to personal, organisational, and customer-related issues, exercising creativity and strategic vision to improve performance and promote change.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of working in a regulated industry, preferably in the energy sector.
  • Experience of leading and managing teams through change.
  • Drive performance within their team.
  • Motivate and manage others.
  • Effective communication with customers, suppliers, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • A degree in Engineering or equivalent level of education is preferred but not essential.
