Mental Health Nurse for Learning Disabilities Specialist

Sanctuary Personnel, a dedicated and award-winning recruitment agency, is seeking an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to work in Southampton on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will have 6-12 months of post-registration experience and be active on the NMC register.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Deliver individualized care to patients, updating care plans in collaboration with patients and their families.
  • Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to clinical governance standards.
  • Prioritize and delegate nursing duties within the shift, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Address and report concerns about patient well-being, incidents, or staffing issues promptly.
  • Engage in continuous learning to meet revalidation requirements and stay current in practice.
  • Support and mentor junior staff, ensuring they adhere to care standards and complete their induction.
  • Fulfill all mandatory training and competency assessments on time.
  • Engage in regular clinical supervision and reflective practice.
  • Be aware of and follow safeguarding policies and procedures, attending required training.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act, Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Follow company policies on medicines management.
  • Handle challenging behavior according to company policies, support junior staff, and develop de-escalation strategies.
Requirements:
  • Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse with 6-12 months of post-registration experience.
  • Active NMC registration and completion of preceptorship or an equivalent programme.
  • Knowledgeable about NMC standards, guidelines, and professional practices.
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional development since registration.
  • Capable of developing and employing flexible, innovative approaches to clinical practice.
