Materials Engineer Opportunity at Octagon Group

A leading business in the materials industry is seeking a skilled Materials Engineer to contribute to its mission-critical projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in materials science and engineering, with a proven ability to analyze complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Material Selection and Specification: Utilize technical expertise to select and specify materials for various applications, ensuring compliance with demanding specifications.
  • Root Cause Investigation and Troubleshooting: Lead or support technical investigations to identify and resolve material failures, implementing effective solutions to maintain competitive standards.
  • Technical Initiatives and Collaboration: Contribute to key initiatives, including material compliance, dual sourcing, and parts verification, to drive innovation and excellence.
  • Design Integration and Process Optimization: Collaborate with R&D and design teams to seamlessly integrate new products into manufacturing processes, developing and refining processes to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Bid Support and Compliance Implementation: Assist the project team in developing cost-effective manufacturing strategies, completing cost-reduction initiatives, and establishing control measures to ensure adherence to specifications and standards.
  • Industry Innovation and Knowledge: Stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies, driving innovation to maintain a competitive edge and enhance business success.

Person Specification:

  • Education and Experience: Minimum HNC in a relevant science or engineering field, with experience in technical manufacturing engineering roles advantageous.
  • Proactive Approach and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to prioritize and support multiple projects simultaneously, with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration, with the ability to lead technical projects and write clear, concise documentation.
