Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Assistant to join our team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the receipt, supply, and distribution of pharmaceutical products across our hospital site.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, where you will be responsible for receiving, unpacking, and checking orders from wholesalers and other companies. You will also be involved in stock control, investigating discrepancies, and maintaining accurate records.

We are looking for a team player who is able to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and maintain a high level of accuracy. You will be responsible for providing a professional, efficient, and effective service to patients, visitors, and other departments.

Main Duties
  • Receive, unpack, and check orders from wholesalers and other companies
  • Participate in stock control, investigating discrepancies, and maintaining accurate records
  • Responsible for accuracy checking of ward stock top up, including drug strength, formulation, pack size, expiry date, and quantity
  • Provide cover for the pharmacy portering service to the Mount Vernon Hospital
  • Provide a professional, efficient, and effective service to patients, visitors, and other departments

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following essential criteria:

  • NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services or willing to work towards
  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths

Desirable criteria include:

  • Completion of additional dispensary competencies (signed off as competent to dispense medicines)
  • Knowledge of GDP (requirements of WDL)
  • Knowledge of COSHH and H&S
