Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a dynamic school in Gateshead. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting students and teachers to achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver engaging lessons.
  • Lead small group activities and interventions to support student learning.
  • Provide one-to-one support for pupils who require additional help.
  • Supervise whole classes during the teacher's absence, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Work closely with other staff members to create a positive and inclusive learning community.
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour support, promoting a culture of respect and responsibility.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) or similar role.
  • A recognised HLTA qualification or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN) is desirable.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a positive and can-do attitude.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and child protection, with a strong understanding of the importance of background checks.
