Job Description

RED Engineering Design is seeking a highly skilled Associate Electrical Design Engineer to join our team in Newcastle. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for running major projects and providing technical expertise to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and design of engineering project services for Mechanical or Electrical installations, systems, equipment, facilities, etc.
  • Conduct cost and profit analysis on projects, including feasibility studies and preparation of fee bids.
  • Review project status and modify schedules or plans as required, preparing project reports for management, clients, or others.
  • Develop and specify applications of controls, instruments, and operating systems for building engineering services purposes.
  • Survey, test, and report on existing electrical/mechanical installations.
  • Specify activities to ensure manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing meet functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Represent the company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams, and contractors.
  • Ensure engineering calculations and drawings meet industry and legal standards.
  • Make day-to-day decisions on project progress and provide direct liaison with clients.
  • Monitor risk and performance analysis through effective systems of internal control and delegation.
  • Coordinate engineering services and take a holistic view in the selection and application of engineering concepts and solutions.

Requirements

  • BSc/BEng in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • MCIBSE/MIEE or HND/HNC + appropriate experience or equivalent.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Significant experience of specification design for various building types.
  • Sound knowledge and working application of key health and safety issues and legislation.
  • Appreciation and working knowledge of contract and business law.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to use IT-based calculation and spreadsheet software.
  • Good understanding of BS standards, UK regulations, and codes.
  • Experience and understanding of invoicing and credit control.
  • Ability to prioritize own workload and work to deadlines.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Chairing and facilitation of meeting skills.
  • Background in consulting or construction preferred.
