Job Summary

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHSFT is seeking a highly skilled General Medicine Consultant to join their team. As a key member of the General Medicine Consultant team, the appointee will be responsible for ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality care to patients within the trust.

Main Duties of the Job

The appointed consultant will be expected to contribute to the on-going service improvement programme, developing initiatives such as Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) and Cost Improvement programme (CIP). They will also be responsible for implementing evidence-based new ways of working and participating in the development of clinical protocols, guidelines, and concise care bundles.

Job Responsibilities

  • To provide rapid assessment of general medical patients.
  • To stabilise and manage patients admitted with medical emergencies.
  • To carry out post-take ward rounds during the week.
  • To maintain effective communication and handover to the on-call team.
  • To develop emergency services, liaising with other departments.
  • To take part in the weekend General Medical on-call rota with colleagues.

Organisational Responsibilities

  • Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
  • To act as clinical/educational supervisor to locally employed doctors and doctors in training programmes.
  • To actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
  • To provide leadership and support for the effective development of the service.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
