Job Summary

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHSFT is seeking a highly skilled General Medicine Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our General Medicine Consultant team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients within the trust and contributing to the further development of the service.

Main Duties of the Job

The appointed consultant will be expected to contribute to the on-going service improvement programme, developing:

  • Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT)
  • Cost Improvement programme (CIP)
  • Implementing evidence-based new ways of working when necessary

Additionally, the consultant will be encouraged to apply for fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, to which we are an affiliated member.

Job Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for:

  • Providing rapid assessment of general medical patients
  • Stabilising and managing patients admitted with medical emergencies
  • Carrying out post-take ward rounds during the week
  • Maintaining effective communication and handover to the on-call team
  • Developing emergency services, liaising with other departments
  • Participating in the weekend General Medical on-call rota

Organisational Responsibilities

  • Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals
  • Acting as clinical/educational supervisor to locally employed doctors and doctors in training programmes
  • Participating in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
  • Providing leadership and support for the effective development of the service
  • Ensuring active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Developing clinical protocols, guidelines, and concise care bundles
  • Carrying out responsibilities with due regard to the Trust's Equal Opportunities Policy
  • Ensuring that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard
