Job DescriptionThis is a senior leadership role within our General Medicine Consultant team. As a key member, you'll ensure high-quality care delivery to patients and contribute to service development. Your expertise will drive improvements in GIRFT, CIP, and implementing evidence-based practices when necessary.
Clinical Responsibilities- Provide rapid assessment and stabilisation of general medical patients.
- Manage patients with medical emergencies and carry out post-take ward rounds.
- Maintain effective communication and handover to the on-call team.
- Develop emergency services and speciality teams, collaborating with departments like Acute, Accident & Emergency, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, and Community Care.
- Participate in the weekend General Medical on-call rota, taking part in first on-call duties from 8:30 till 20:30 and supporting colleagues from 9:00 till 14:30 at weekends.
- Teach and train junior staff, medical students, and healthcare professionals.
- Act as clinical/educational supervisor to locally employed doctors and doctors in training programs of various grades and experience.
- Contribute to departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
- Lead the effective development of the service and have responsibility for ensuring active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Further develop clinical protocols, guidelines, and concise care bundles.
- Carry out responsibilities with due regard to the Trusts Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Maintain awareness of the responsibility of all employees to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Evaluate annual performance reviews with each member of their staff and agree annual personal development plans to support them in fulfilling their roles.
This role requires:
- A MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCP certification.
- Other professional qualifications or higher degrees in medical education, clinical research, or management.
- Full Registration and a licence to practice with the General Medical Council.
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at time of interview.
The estimated salary for this position is £120,000 per annum, based on the national average salary range for similar positions in the UK.
