About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transport Manager to join our team at Biffa Waste Services. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of our Traffic Office, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our transportation services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the activities of traffic dispatchers, drivers, and operatives to ensure timely and safe delivery of waste management services.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental, and operator license regulations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination of transportation services.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage and maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, fuel consumption, and other relevant data.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in transportation management, preferably in a waste management or logistics industry.
  • National CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
  • Proven track record of managing people and health and safety in a unionized and multi-shift environment.
  • Knowledge of lean methodology and ability to work to clearly defined KPIs.
  • Experience of successful resource management and cost control.
  • Knowledge of transport legislation and regulations.
  • Strong commercial background and ability to work in a commercially driven environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
