About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transport Manager to join our team at Biffa Waste Services. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective management of our traffic office, ensuring compliance with health and safety, environmental, and operator license regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management: Provide leadership and direction to traffic dispatchers, drivers, and operatives, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to perform their duties effectively.
  • Fleet Management: Manage a fleet of vehicles, including liaison with fleet management, ensuring safe vehicle operations, wheel security, and monitoring vehicle gross weights.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with transport and environmental legislation, including third-party insurance claims, and identify and mitigate potential risks to the business.
  • Cost Control and Efficiency: Work closely with the management team to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs, ensuring the business meets and exceeds budget targets.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure all aspects of health and safety are strictly adhered to, including near miss reporting and emergency procedures.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete all administrative tasks associated with the role, including work sheets and tachograph records.
  • Customer Relationships: Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers, ensuring a first-class customer experience.
Requirements
  • Experience: Extensive experience as a Traffic Manager or similar role in the services or logistics industry.
  • Certifications: National CPC is essential.
  • Skills: Experience of people and health and safety management within a unionized and multi-shift environment, understanding of lean methodology, and ability to work to clearly defined KPIs.
  • Education: Minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths, A-Levels or a Degree are desirable.
