Research Scientist in Genetic Epidemiology

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on a Cancer Research UK-funded project to identify molecular mechanisms linking adiposity to pancreatic cancer risk.

You will apply genetic epidemiological methods, including Mendelian randomization and colocalization, to understand key molecular intermediates linking excess adiposity to pancreatic cancer risk across diverse cohort studies.

You will be part of a collaborative research team based at the School of Public Health at Imperial College London, working closely with researchers at the Universities of Bristol and Oxford, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

As a research scientist, you will be responsible for planning and conducting analyses, presenting findings to colleagues, and submitting findings to conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the supervision of postgraduate students and undergraduate research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct genetic epidemiological analyses to identify molecular mechanisms linking adiposity to pancreatic cancer risk.
  • Apply Mendelian randomization and colocalization methods to understand key molecular intermediates.
  • Present findings to colleagues and submit to conferences and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to the supervision of postgraduate students and undergraduate research projects.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Epidemiology, Data Science, Medical Statistics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience of statistical analysis of big data and/or health data.
  • Record of prior publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong coding skills and experience of using genetic and/or molecular epidemiological methods.
