About Project Esperanza SCIO

We are a registered charity (SC051454) that has been offering practical, emotional and integration support to families of African heritage and multi-ethnic backgrounds since 2021. Our social purpose is to provide culturally authentic and appropriate services in North Edinburgh.

Role Overview

This role involves serving as a Non Executive Board member to ensure the organisation's mission is delivered. Key responsibilities include holding the CEO/Director and staff accountable, reviewing strategy and progress, identifying new areas for development, and overseeing funding strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Holding the CEO/Director and staff accountable to delivering our mission
  • Reviewing strategy, outcomes and progress against the mission and objectives
  • Identifying and agreeing new areas for development
  • Overseeing and supporting on strategies for funding and revenue generation
  • Making decisions to safeguard the reputation and maximise the success of the organisation, including:
    • Ensuring governance requirements are met
    • Complying with safeguarding and data protection policies
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Digital marketing and public relations
  • Secretary to the Board
  • Journalism/Publishing/Media (wider UK)
  • Accountancy
  • Employment Law
  • Sustainability/climate emergency
  • Women's health
Board Meetings

As a Non Executive Board member, you will attend meetings four times per year in March, June, October, and December. You will also attend our Annual General Meeting and be required to stand for re-election after a performance review.

Remuneration

This role offers no remuneration, but reasonable expenses incurred in attending meetings and other Project Esperanza related activities will be paid.
