About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director of Estates to join our team at NHS South West London Integrated Care Board (ICB). The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of our healthcare estate and ensuring that our facilities meet the needs of our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the health estate in South West London, including primary and community care facilities.
  • Lead the development of the South West London infrastructure strategy, working closely with the SWL Digital lead and other stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice and assurance to the ICB and wider system on all matters relating to estates governance and financial management.
  • Manage the estates team and respond to the SWL senior management team and other system-wide stakeholders for all estates matters.
  • Identify and evaluate estate options, working with stakeholders to explore opportunities for collaboration, rationalisation, and transformation of the estate.
  • Support the One Public Estate programme and strive to influence membership across the 6 Boroughs.
Requirements
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience in a specialist area, such as estates management or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of specialist NHS estates areas, acquired through postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience or training, plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master's level equivalent.
  • Evidence of continued professional development and membership of relevant estates professional bodies, such as RIBA, CIOB, RICS, or CIBSE.
  • Subject matter expertise across a number of key areas relating to estates costing and appraisal, with demonstrated experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing performance of individuals.
Skills and Abilities
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to communicate and present on highly complex, sensitive, and/or contentious matters and difficult situations.
  • Ability to persuade board and senior managers of the respective merits of different options, innovation, and new market opportunities.
  • Ability to negotiate on difficult and very complex and detailed issues.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and monitor information systems to support innovation initiatives.
  • Ability to make sound judgments in the absence of clear guidelines or precedent, seeking advice as necessary from more senior management when appropriate.
  • Leadership, vision, strategic thinking, and planning, with highly developed political skills.
