Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Blood Transfusion team at London Bridge Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for the receipt of group and save samples, maintenance of laboratory equipment and working area, laboratory supplies, archiving of documents, and assisting the department Head and Biomedical Scientists in Transfusion as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing, separating Blood/serum/plasma samples for analysis
  • Keeping maintenance records up to date
  • Analyser maintenance
  • Receiving samples
  • Loading and unloading of analysers
  • Managing reagent and other consumables stock levels
  • Liaising with the Materials department on issues to do with laboratory supplies and deliveries
  • Ensuring equipment are in good working order
  • Assisting BMSs in performing analytical functions of the service
  • Assisting in all sections within the Transfusion laboratory wherever required
  • Ensuring that all hard copy documents within the laboratory are the correct versions
  • Adhering to Health and Safety policies
  • Following HCA policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • 'A' Level equivalent in science subjects
  • Previous laboratory experience is desirable
  • Strong IT skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to follow instructions well
  • Good prioritising skills
  • Manual dexterity
  • Able to work with accuracy pipetting
  • Ability to work under pressure
