Mental Health Liaison Nurse Specialist

About the Role
The Mental Health Liaison (MHL) Nurse Specialist will play a critical role in supporting patients with mental health needs in our inpatient units. This will involve receiving referrals from our hospitals and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to plan and deliver patient care. The successful candidate will hold a lead role in managing patients and contribute to the development of best practice management pathways.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and management of patients' mental health conditions, working closely with the multidisciplinary team and Safeguarding Lead.
- Manage a caseload within their scope of practice, with guidance from the CNO and wider clinical team.
- Upskill and train colleagues to manage acute mental health patient deteriorations and provide advice on management out of hours.
- Complete risk assessments and provide advice on mental capacity assessments, building links with external inpatient mental health partners.
- Manage challenging or disturbed behaviour, provide advice on medication, and participate in discharge planning for inpatients requiring mental health support.
