Child Protection Specialist

The role of a Designated Safeguarding Lead is to ensure the needs of children and young people are fully recognised and met, creating a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive.
This is an opportunity to be part of a dedicated leadership team, reporting directly to the Head Teacher. You will collaborate with colleagues across multiple settings to develop your skills, knowledge, and expertise in safeguarding and education.
Key responsibilities include taking responsibility for safeguarding within the school, acting as a key point of contact for matters related to wellbeing, child protection, and safeguarding. You will liaise daily with statutory and non-statutory agencies, parents/carers, and staff, offering advice, support, and guidance.
As a leading figure in safeguarding, you will be an integral source of expertise and leadership, ensuring the highest standards of care and protection for children and young people.
We are seeking an experienced professional who has worked with autistic pupils, including those who are non-verbal and use communication methods such as Makaton, PECs, or PODD. An understanding of autism-specific strategies, such as TEACCH or Attention Autism, and the ability to implement these in practice is essential. A flexible and creative approach to working with children aged 4-11, delivering a bespoke and accessible curriculum tailored to their needs is required.
A comprehensive portfolio of CPD in Safeguarding and Child Protection is necessary. Outstanding interpersonal and problem-solving skills are also essential. A genuinely empathetic approach to working with children and families is crucial. A full UK driving licence is preferred.
The salary for this role is up to £67,762, which is competitive considering the location in Mitcham, Surrey.
