Job Title: Facilities Manager

Job Summary:

The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the upkeep of the school premises, ensuring a safe, clean, and warm environment for all site users and visitors. This includes maintaining buildings, fixtures, fittings, and furniture, as well as performing minor repairs and reporting defects to the School Business Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Security:
    • Ensure gates and entrances are kept clear and that fire doors are kept shut.
    • Ensure that site keys are kept in a safe place.
    • Ensure that gates and padlocks are secure, changing codes and replacing padlocks as necessary.
    • Attend emergency call outs to premises as appropriate.
    • Test fire alarms on a weekly basis.
  2. Maintenance:
    • Take responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the premises, including buildings, fixtures, fittings, and furniture.
    • Carry out minor repairs.
    • Report defects to SBM.
    • Use official order forms for any repairs/works following authorisation from the SBM.
    • Engage in preventative maintenance to eliminate potential hazards.
    • Perform general gardening duties, e.g., weeding, cutting back hedges, maintaining shrubs, planters, and hanging baskets.
    • Ensure hard surface areas or grounds are weeded and any protruding low-level bushes are cut back; organise the cutting back of trees by authorised contractors.
    • Monitor plumbing and drainage, unblocking drains, sinks, and gutters where possible.
    • Check and replace lamps/tubes in light fittings.
    • Under the instruction of the SBM, carry out minor decorating jobs.
    • Operate heating plant to maintain required temperatures. Carry out frost precaution procedures as necessary.
    • Carry out routine checks of fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and emergency lighting.
    • Perform monthly meter readings.
    • Complete any other procedures required to ensure the school site is kept in a good state of repair.
  3. Health and Safety:
    • Maintain a safe and healthy environment, referring all hazards to the nominated health and safety officer at the establishment.
    • Carry out regular site inspections and risk assessments of the school site.
    • Have knowledge of use and maintenance of fire precautions and equipment.
    • Clear ice and snow, putting down salt to give access and egress to site, making sure adequate supplies are available in time for winter.
    • Clean up bodily fluids when on duty.
    • Investigate and report all serious accidents and potential hazards involving staff or plant.
    • Keep a log of Hazardous Waste disposal/removals and arrange collections by approved contractors.
    • Assist the SBM in ensuring that all contractors working on site follow health and safety guidelines.
  4. Cleaning Management:
    • Perform internal and external cleaning duties as required.
    • Monitor toilet/wash areas at regular intervals ensuring adequate toilet rolls, hand towels, and soap are available.
  5. General Duties:
    • Sweep playgrounds, hose down play areas, clear litter, debris, and leaves, and empty outdoor bins regularly.
    • Oversee and co-ordinate deliveries of stock, supplies, etc., to correct storage site.
    • D.I.Y within capabilities.
    • Attend training courses or sessions as necessary to benefit the performance of duty.
    • Move furniture where necessary and transfer goods and materials delivered to the school to required locations.
    • Check supplies of cleaning and hygiene products and replace and reorder as required.
    • Carry out any other reasonable requests as directed by the HT/SBM.
  6. Extended Services:
    • Ensure that premises are maintained safely throughout the extended offer and that all users are aware of health and safety guidance and policies.
    • Set up chairs/tables or equipment as requested.
    • Report any issues to the SBM and provide regular feedback.
    • Open and lock gates, doors, and windows, as appropriate.
    • Ensure that all users sign in/out.
    • Activate/deactivate the intruder alarm system.
    • Liaise with hall and pitch hirers as necessary regarding site and security.

Person Specification:

Essential (Must) Desirable (Should) Advantageous (Could)

  • Experience of managing facilities and/or maintenance environment.
  • Handy person/DIY skills.
  • Qualifications in a skilled trade (e.g., plumbing).
  • Experience of IT packages including Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, hygiene procedures, and precautions.
  • Aware of COSHH regulations.

  • Willing to undergo training to develop competence/experience.

  • Ability to interact positively with infant age children and their families.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: £1,065.00-£1,147.00 per year

Expected hours: 1.5 per week
