Job Description

The Philanthropy Officer plays a critical role in cultivating and soliciting donors for institution-wide priorities, working closely with the Vice President and staff to support and embrace the mission and goals of Virginia State University.

This position involves structuring, implementing, and monitoring a highly effective development and donor services program, including making cold calls and developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Ability to identify and understand the needs and interests of individual, corporate, and foundation donors
  • Ability to research and identify individual, corporate, and foundation donors (10K+)
  • Experience in higher education
  • Possession of a high degree of integrity, initiative, and professionalism as well as sound judgment
  • Self-starter with a resourceful and entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to act decisively
