**Job Summary**

The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Academic Programmes Director to lead the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of a new encore education programme for adult learners.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the Better Futures programme, ensuring it meets the needs of adult learners and aligns with the Institute's goals.
  • Lead a small programme team and manage the work of hourly-paid academics and expert consultants to deliver high-quality learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with the Institute's Directors of External Engagement, Academic Centres, Summer Programmes, and Lifelong Learning to drive entrepreneurial approaches and meet key performance indicators.
  • Ensure the programme is well-designed, with innovative pedagogies deployed to optimize the learning experience, and that the quality of teaching and learning is consistently high.
  • Manage the programme's budget, governance, and regulatory requirements, working closely with the Institute's Finance and IT teams.
  • Represent the Institute at relevant fora and conferences, chairing committees and working groups as needed.

**Requirements**

  • Proven leadership and management experience within UK higher education settings, with a collaborative and effective approach to strategic planning, operational delivery, and budgeting and governance.
  • Advanced awareness of key issues in lifelong learning, particularly in the field of encore education.
  • Ability to articulate an inclusive and transparent approach to line management and performance management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
