Job Overview

To provide high-quality administrative support to the Consultant Geriatricians and their teams, with a focus on audio typing clinic letters and providing an empathetic point of contact for patients, relatives, and carers.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide an efficient secretarial service to the Consultant Geriatricians, Advanced Practitioner staff, and support colleagues during absence.
  • Assist the Department PA's with administrative duties, including typing clinic and additional letters to GP's, patients, and other Allied Health Professionals.
  • Support the secretarial team and PA in their role, covering during sickness and annual leave.
  • Use digital dictation when appropriate, and type letters under the supervision of the consultant secretary.
  • Look up, sort, and file patients' results, and use the hospital computer system to access patient details.
  • Be responsible for out-going post, meeting afternoon deadlines, and answer secretaries' telephone and take messages when required.
  • Scan all new Choose & Book referrals, and action Choose & Book referrals once graded.

Person Specification

  • GCSE in English and Maths equivalent
  • Vocational qualification level 3 in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Minute Taking skills
  • Technical Skills Competencies
  • Computer literate with word processing experience
  • Audio typing Knowledge
  • Understanding of secretarial procedures
  • Understanding of Microsoft Word
  • Experience of working as a Medical Secretary
  • NHS Admin experience
