About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Hydrologist to join our team at the Environment Agency. As a key member of our Flood Hydrology Improvements Programme, you will play a crucial role in reducing the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide Hydrological Expertise: You will use your specialist hydrological expertise to design, deliver, and advise on improvements projects, including the creation of a framework for benchmarking hydrological approaches and scoping the next generation of UK operational flood estimation approaches.
  2. Advise on Technical Priorities: You will advise on technical priorities and deliver improvements, collaborating with others from across the EA and hydrological community to ensure improvements are well-designed for end users.
  3. Lead Improvements Projects: You will lead the development of scopes for improvements projects, working with others internally and externally, and guiding and working with suppliers to ensure work is appropriate, proportionate, and of sufficient quality.
  4. Review and Sign-off: You will review and sign-off of in-house and commissioned flood hydrology projects, ensuring they meet the required standards.
Requirements
  1. Expertise in Flood Hydrology: You will have an in-depth understanding of hydrological processes, how models simulate them, and model limitations, as well as extensive experience building and calibrating hydrological models for floods.
  2. Strong Analytical Skills: You will have good mathematical ability, sound scientific reasoning, and the ability to make practical compromises.
  3. Effective Communication: You will be able to build relationships and communicate hydrological concepts to non-technical audiences, and have a passion for self-development and coaching others.
