About the Role

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is a leading innovator in the field of nanopore sequencing, with a global presence and a commitment to delivering cutting-edge technologies to the market.

We are seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatician to join our Sample Technology team, where you will play a key role in driving revenue growth through the research and development of tools, techniques, and workflows that customers apply with our disruptive sequencing devices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement bioinformatic pipelines to analyze large next-generation sequencing data sets
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute experimental workflows
  • Contribute to the development of best practice advice and publications to support customers and customer-facing teams
  • Work independently and collaboratively to solve complex problems and prioritize tasks effectively
Requirements
  • PhD in a Biological Science or Computer Science with a substantial bioinformatics component, or equivalent experience
  • Practical experience with handling and analyzing large next-generation sequencing data sets
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, R), workflow management systems (e.g. NextFlow, Snakemake), and software development practices (e.g. version control)
  • Strong scientific literacy and writing skills, with the ability to present results to varied scientific audiences
Desirable Skills
  • Practical experience with different types of long read sequencing data (e.g. genomic DNA, cDNA, single cell)
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver projects as a member of a team
  • Experience publishing or releasing your own NGS tools or workflows
  • Hands-on wet lab experience or a track record of interaction with wet lab scientists
