Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, United Kingdom Alzheimer's Society Full time

About Alzheimer's Society

We are a leading dementia charity in the UK, striving to transform lives today and find a cure for tomorrow.

As a Singing for the Brain Support Volunteer, you will play a vital role in our mission by providing a supportive environment for people with dementia to enjoy music therapy.

About The Role

You will be welcoming and talking to people with dementia, helping them feel at ease. Once the singing session starts, you will provide encouragement to participate and support the session facilitator.

This group meets on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month from 1.30 - 3.30pm at Cartref Cynnes, Llansteffan Rd, Johnstown, Carmarthen, SA31 3NQ

No experience is necessary, but we do require someone who is caring and empathetic. You will need to be physically fit enough to move tables and chairs to set the room.

You'll be great for the role if:

  • You have an interest in developing meaningful relationships and making a real difference.
  • You want to enable people with dementia to find their voice through music in an incredibly rewarding role.
  • You are fun and enthusiastic.
  • You have the ability to listen and display compassion.
  • If you are supporting our virtual sessions, you will need to be able to navigate effectively online and be able to use Zoom with confidence.
  • Experience of dementia is not essential, nor is the ability to sing.

Minimum age 16

Salary

£9-10 per hour (dependent on location)
