About the Role

As a Materials Scientist at Oxford Quantum Circuits, you will play a critical role in driving the development and improvement of our cutting-edge Quantum processing units. With your expertise in materials characterisation and metrology, you will contribute to advancing our technology and achieving our mission to put quantum in the hands of humanity.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of their field, with significant experience in applying materials science principles to guide improvements in materials and techniques. You will be responsible for investigation and implementation of new methods to understand the limiting parameters of superconducting films/devices, as well as creation and maintenance of process documentation, project plans and reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigation of superconducting devices through materials characterisation and metrology methods
  • Investigation and improvement of limiting factors to qubit coherence and fabrication precision
  • Investigation and implementation of new methods to understand the limiting parameters of superconducting films/devices
  • Creation and maintenance of process documentation, project plans and reports

Requirements
  • PhD (or MSc + significant related experience) in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry or related discipline
  • Specialised experience with a range of material characterisation techniques such as XPS, SIMS, Auger, EELS, Raman spectroscopy, ellipsometry, RBS, SEM, FIB, TEM, EDX, XRD, AFM, etc
  • Significant experience of programmatic data analysis in Python or similar
  • Knowledge and understanding of nanofabrication processing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and reasoning skills
  • Great problem solving skills and meticulous attention to details
