Job Overview
The Thames Valley Vascular Network (TVVN) provides care to a population of over one million across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire. The Network consists of three NHS trusts:
- Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT)
- Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT)
- Royal Berkshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RBHFT)
The postholder will be employed by OUHFT and is expected to adhere to the local policies of all trusts when delivering services. They will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Network to develop effective and efficient patient pathways.
The successful applicant will join a team of nine consultant vascular surgeons, eight consultant interventional radiologists, and seven vascular clinical nurse specialists within the TVVN. They will work closely with these colleagues, along with local GPs across the network, to develop local services and a streamlined pathway for vascular patients requiring inpatient care in Oxford.
Main Duties of the Job
The postholder's duties will be in the John Radcliffe Hospital and cover for the Thames Valley Vascular Network hospitals. They will be expected to cover the full range of elective and emergency endovascular and open surgery in Oxford. Rarely, this may involve the management of paediatric cases.
All aspects of vascular surgery are undertaken by the vascular surgical department, with most common procedures including:
- Aortic disorders – Open and endovascular procedures undertaken, including complex aortic repairs, in close collaboration with the cardiac service to offer a comprehensive service
- Carotid endarterectomy – One of the busiest centres for surgical treatment of carotid disease, including carotid stenting
- Complex management of peripheral vascular disease, including diabetic foot disorder – Strong link with the Oxford Bone infection unit and OCDEM to offer a comprehensive diabetic foot service
- Management of Venous disease – We provide a tertiary deep venous service with a robust MDT and treatment, using primarily endovascular techniques, for deep venous disorders
Working for Our Organisation
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training, and research. The trust comprises four hospitals: the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington, and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
Our values, standards, and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues, and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence, which focuses on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement, and excellence.
