Job Purpose
The role of the NHS Specialist Health Nurse is to provide comprehensive care for patients with advanced Parkinson's disease at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. This involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement care pathways that ensure equitable access to infusion-based treatments and Deep Brain Stimulation. The postholder will be responsible for assessing and monitoring patient risk, working within the NMC Code, and ensuring that information provided to health professionals and patients is research-based.

Main Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to Parkinson's nurse specialists to establish and run clinics at satellite sites across the South West Peninsula. This will involve working in a hospital-based setting, with most clinical contact taking place in person. There may be opportunities for home working, including administering infusion-based therapies and managing wound care. The postholder will also be responsible for auditing initiatives and quality improvement projects.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Extensive experience within Parkinson's care
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to high-quality patient care
  • Demonstrable experience of drawing up and administering infusion-based therapies
  • Demonstrable experience of wound care and management of cutaneous infections
  • Demonstrable experience of audit initiatives and quality improvement projects

Qualifications
Essential
  • First-level degree in Adult Nursing or equivalent
  • Professional registration with the NMC
  • MSc in Clinical Nursing or equivalent experience
  • Non-medical prescriber qualification or willingness to work towards
