Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Finite Element Analyst to join our team at National Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our safety and security team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of our nuclear facilities and equipment.

Your primary responsibility will be to conduct structural integrity assessments using commercial finite element codes, including impact assessment analysis, fitness for service, fracture mechanics, and remnant life assessments. You will also be responsible for managing technical projects, including project delivery, commercial awareness, and management of project staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct structural integrity assessments of new and existing nuclear plant and equipment.
  • Develop and implement numerical models using commercially available finite element codes.
  • Assess structures and components to ASME III and relevant British Standards such as BS7910.
  • Present results to customers and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement risk assessment and mitigation strategies.

Requirements:

  • Good degree in Engineering, Maths, or Physics.
  • Experience of linear and non-linear impact assessment analysis using ANSYS, ABAQUS, LS-DYNA, or equivalent.
  • Experience of undertaking structural integrity assessments of safety-critical structures and components to British, European, or American design codes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interface with client engineers and stakeholders.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with fracture mechanics, life assessment, damage tolerance assessments, and fitness for service assessments using R5, R6, BS7910, or API-579.
  • Familiarity with IAEA transport regulations.
