Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planning & Highways Lawyer to work within the Planning Team (Legal Services). The successful candidate will provide legal and procedural advice and services to meet the requirements of the Council as a whole and specific Services and Departments.

  • Providing expert advice on planning appeals and challenges to planning decisions.
  • Developing and implementing effective Planning Enforcement strategies.

The role involves working predominantly on Planning law matters, including:

  1. Staying up-to-date with planning legislation and developments in policy.
  2. Reviewing and updating the Council's Development Plan documents.
  3. Representing the Council at Planning Committees.

An excellent working knowledge of property law is essential, along with a commercial approach to delivering a high-quality legal service.

Key Requirements
  • Excellent drafting skills, ability to provide concise and clear advice, negotiate, and carry out legal research and analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project teams and client departments to ensure good client relations.
  • Knowledge of local government and administrative law.
