Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planning & Highways Lawyer to work within the Planning Team (Legal Services). The successful candidate will provide legal and procedural advice and services to meet the requirements of the Council as a whole and specific Services and Departments.

  • Providing expert advice on planning appeals and challenges to planning decisions.
  • Advising the Planning department on all aspects of Planning Enforcement law and strategy.

The role involves working predominantly on Planning law matters, including:

  1. Keeping up-to-date with planning legislation and developments in policy.
  2. Assisting in reviewing and updating the Council's Development Plan documents.
  3. Attending Planning Committees and supporting the Team Manager.

An excellent working knowledge of property law is essential, along with an innovative, commercial approach to delivering a high-quality legal service. We offer a diverse role with no one day the same.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing support to senior lawyers in the team while managing your own caseload.
  • Working collaboratively with project teams and client departments to ensure good client relations.
  • Excellent drafting skills, ability to provide concise and clear advice, negotiate, and carry out legal research and analysis.
