Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our team at the Newport Animal Centre. As a Deputy Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the centre, overseeing animal welfare, health and safety, and administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to animal welfare standards and procedures for intake, assessment, and rehoming.
  • Oversee the health and safety of staff, volunteers, and the public, conducting inductions and addressing safety incidents.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff, implementing HR policies and ensuring staff are supported through regular evaluations and personal development plans.
  • Manage paperwork, records, and external correspondence, as well as the security and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Centre Manager to promote fundraising opportunities and engage with the media.
  • Recruit and manage fosterers and their associated responsibilities.
Requirements
  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Full manual driving licence (subject to reasonable adjustments).
  • Animal handling and husbandry experience.
  • People/line management experience.
  • Conflict management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Desirable Qualifications
  • NVQ Diploma level 2 or equivalent or equivalent qualification in animal care.
  • Health and safety qualification e.g. IOSH certificate or diploma.
