Rheumatology Clinical Support Nurse

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Nurse Specialist to join our Rheumatology team at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients with rheumatological conditions, working closely with our Rheumatology Nurse Specialists and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing support to the Rheumatology Nurse Specialists team, contributing to the clinical management of patients with rheumatological diseases.
  • Administer intravenous infusions of medications, including infliximab, rituximab, and bisphosphonates, in a safe and accurate manner.
  • Monitor patients' conditions, recognizing changes that require timely escalation and ensuring that interventions are enacted as necessary.
  • Respond to adverse drug events and abnormal blood results, adjusting treatment plans under supervision.
  • Ensure patient safety is maintained at all times, recording and reporting adverse events and near misses in line with local policy.
  • Support the clinical nurse specialists in providing open access to patients through the Rheumatology helpline and e-mails, ensuring specialized advice and support is given.
  • Provide advice and support to patients and their families regarding the care and management of patients with inflammatory joint disease.
  • Participate in health promotion and the prevention of ill health, supporting patients to adopt healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care.
  • Record information about patients in a safe, accurate, and consistent manner, including computerized patient records.
  • Comply with and fulfill the objectives of the rheumatology service, taking responsibility for initiating objectives within the rheumatology team.
  • Participate in audits and research in Rheumatology services to improve practice, as directed by line management.
  • Attend appropriate meetings and courses to gain a more in-depth knowledge and supplement in-house learning.

Requirements:

  • NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in a similar role or relevant clinical experience.
  • Knowledge of rheumatological conditions and treatments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
