The Role

We are seeking an experienced Events Sous Chef to join our team at The Barbican Centre. As an Events Sous Chef, you will play a key role in supporting the Head Chef to manage the day-to-day service and lead the junior team to deliver high-end events and exceptional quality food.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food and Service Excellence
    • Provide food and service to a consistently high standard, including assisting senior chefs with functions in different areas throughout the business.
  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Manage the kitchen brigade in the absence of the executive chef.
    • Assist in training junior staff.
  • Operational Management
    • Liaise with key team members to plan for the provision of food in all areas.
    • Place orders directly with suppliers.
    • Ensure smooth running of daily operations, including ensuring no disruption to the pre-agreed menu offer.
    • Manage stock levels of the specific area, including ordering when required and waste control.
  • Quality and Presentation
    • Ensure the presentation of the food is consistent with the standards set by senior chefs.
  • Requirements
    • Minimum 2 years experience in people management.
    • Take the initiative.
    • Be supportive and a team player.
    • Demonstrate a high level of organisation.
    • Be willing to work the hours and needs of the business.
