Geological Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled technician to provide dedicated technical support to the Department of Geography, Geology, and the Environment (GGE). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting cutting-edge teaching and research in a dynamic and growing department.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain, calibrate, and operate a variety of specialist equipment, including geological survey instruments and geophysical apparatus.
- Provide technical support for laboratory-based teaching, fieldwork, and research activities.
- Assist with the preparation and setup of practical classes, ensuring all equipment and materials are ready for use.
- Provide technical guidance and training to staff and students on the use of laboratory and field equipment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments as required.
- Manage equipment inventories and oversee the procurement of consumables and replacement parts.
- Collaborate with academic staff to develop innovative practical exercises and support research projects.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geology, geophysics, or a related discipline, coupled with experience in technical support for laboratory and/or field-based activities. A degree or equivalent qualification is required, or significant relevant experience can be considered.
