CLINICAL FELLOW (EQUIVALENT OF ST3+) in PAEDIATRIC SURGERY

We are seeking to appoint Clinical Fellows to a vacancy from April and October 2025 for 12 months fixed term.

The post provides wide experience in the management of children, including neonates, who need specialist paediatric surgical treatment.

The post holder will participate in a 1 in 8 on call rota deal with emergency admissions and cover the inpatients out of hours, they would be expected to take responsibility for the ward inpatients as well as participating in outpatient clinics and theatre lists.

The work of our registrars is closely supported and supervised by the departmental consultants.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to assess and treat common paediatric surgical conditions
  • Ability to assess and manage acutely unwell children
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relations with patients, carers and multi-disciplinary colleagues
  • Awareness of own limitations and ability to consult senior colleagues appropriately
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in teams and also on own initiative, without Consultant supervision in some instances

Desirable

  • Good presentation skills

Academic/Professional Qualification/Training

Essential

  • Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice or IELTS Certificate with an overall score of with a minimum score of '7' in each domain or Occupational English Test (medicine version) with a minimum score of 'B' in each domain.
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • IELTS (if visa sponsorship required)

Desirable

  • Child protection training
  • Completion of APLS or equivalent resuscitation course

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Previous Registrar level experience in paediatric surgery (at least 2 years)
  • Completion of core surgical training or equivalent
  • Previous experience of research and audit

Desirable

  • Evidence of involvement in quality improvement
  • Evidence of involvement in formal and informal teaching
  • FRCS in paediatric surgery or equivalent
