We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emotional and Mental Health Support Assistant to join our team at Wayman Learning Trust. As an Emotional and Mental Health Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with emotional and mental health challenges in our secondary school.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have previous experience in mental health support, pastoral care, or a related field, particularly within an educational setting. You should also possess excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective communication and collaboration with students, staff, and parents. A calm and compassionate approach to sensitive issues is essential, as well as the ability to create a safe and trusting environment for students to express their feelings.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them develop coping strategies, improve self-esteem, and enhance their emotional regulation skills.
  • Collaborate closely with the SEN and pastoral teams to create tailored support plans that address the unique needs of students, ensuring a holistic approach to their wellbeing.
  • Engage in regular communication with teachers, parents, and external agencies to monitor student progress and provide ongoing support as needed.
  • Participate in school initiatives and programs aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues, promoting a positive school culture that prioritizes student wellbeing.
Requirements:
  • A strong background in mental health support, pastoral care, or a related field, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective communication and collaboration with students, staff, and parents.
  • A compassionate and calm approach to sensitive issues, with the ability to create a safe and trusting environment for students to express their feelings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to the varying needs of students in different emotional states.
  • A current and clear Enhanced DBS check, essential to ensure the safety and security of all students.
