Job Title: Respiratory Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Respiratory Nurse Specialist to lead and deliver Nurse-led respiratory clinics for patients in our Brownlow Central practice. The focus will be on Asthma management within our large student population, as well as review of patients with other respiratory conditions such as COPD, Bronchiectasis, and Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Review patients with asthma and COPD using relevant EMIS clinical templates to ensure assessments are completed and coded to meet QOF requirements.
  2. Use non-medical prescribing to review medications, including maintenance therapy and acute self-management plans.
  3. Assess inhaler technique and optimize inhaler therapy, considering greener respiratory care options.
  4. Review patients admitted to an emergency care setting with an acute asthma attack or exacerbation of COPD within 2 working days of discharge.
  5. Review patients admitted to hospital with symptoms of breathlessness related to any other underlying respiratory problem or LRTI.
  6. Interpret spirometry testing as required.
  7. First contact assessment, examination, and management of patients presenting with acute respiratory problems, including potential COVID-19 symptoms.
  8. Review patients diagnosed or suspected with long COVID.
  9. Administer relevant health prevention vaccinations.
Requirements:
  • Registered Part 1 NMC
  • Independent/supplementary nurse prescriber
  • Specialist respiratory qualification (level 6 and above)
  • Clinical examination
  • MSc Advanced Practice
Working Arrangements:

This is a temporary 12-month maternity post. The successful candidate will be accountable to the Nurse Managers and will work a standard day and hours per week.
