Job Title: Respiratory Specialist Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Respiratory Specialist Nurse to lead and deliver nurse-led respiratory clinics for patients in our Brownlow Central practice. The successful candidate will have a strong background in respiratory care and be able to work autonomously to proactively target high-risk patients and provide an assessment of their needs and an appropriate management plan.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Review patients with asthma and COPD using relevant EMIS clinical templates to ensure assessments are completed and coded to meet QOF requirements.
  2. Use non-medical prescribing to review medications, including maintenance therapy and acute self-management plans.
  3. Assess inhaler technique and optimize inhaler therapy, considering greener respiratory care options.
  4. Review patients admitted to an emergency care setting with an acute asthma attack or exacerbation of COPD within 2 working days of discharge.
  5. Review patients admitted to hospital with symptoms of breathlessness related to any other underlying respiratory problem or LRTI.
  6. Ability to interpret spirometry testing as required.
  7. First contact assessment, examination, and management of patients presenting with acute respiratory problems, including potential COVID-19 symptoms.
  8. Review patients diagnosed or suspected with long COVID.
  9. Administration of relevant health prevention vaccinations.
