Job Title: Specialist Nurse - Children's Services Diabetes

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Nurse to join our team in the Integrated Community Children's Nursing Service at University Hospital Wishaw. The successful candidate will provide nursing leadership and expertise in the care and management of children with diabetes, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialist nursing care and support to children with diabetes, including assessment, planning, and implementation of individualized care plans.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement evidence-based care pathways and guidelines.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of education and training programs for healthcare professionals and families.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the evaluation of care services.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care transitions and effective communication.
Requirements:
  • Registered Sick Children's Nurse with valid NMC Registration.
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level.
  • Postgraduate expertise within speciality/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality/area of practice.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies, and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice.
  • Leadership skills to enable the day-to-day management of service delivery.
  • Excellent team-working/leadership skills and ability to motivate others and work using own initiative.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • Masters Degree in specialist area.
  • Evidence of further education including Post Grad Certification.
  • Diploma continuous professional development in relevant areas.
  • Qualified paediatric/child branch nurse.
  • Experience working in the Community.
  • Evidence of personal/team research and audit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of locality and national Policy within speciality.
  • Expert clinic practice.
  • Up-to-date with research and development for speciality.
  • Demonstrate analytical and judgement skills.
  • Competent in application of research-based evidence in working practice.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining relationships.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • Evidence of training.
  • Evidence of effective problem-solving skills.
  • IT and database management skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable in responding to service needs in dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
  • Car Driver with full UK licence.
  • Concentration when driving.
  • Ability to carry clinical equipment (e.g., monitoring equipment).
  • Ability to carry non-clinical equipment (e.g., records, health promotion equipment, laptop & projector).
