Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Underwriting Performance Analytics Expert to join our team at Howden Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing globally consistent standards of underwriting analytics and reporting, and for providing insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement globally consistent standards of underwriting analytics and reporting
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders on underwriting performance and trends
  • Collaborate with key business stakeholders to define underwriting performance metrics and track them regularly
  • Work with a variety of datasets across different domains to identify trends and insights
  • Support regional teams with the production of historical and forecast underwriting performance metrics
  • Design and implement dashboards and reports using Power BI to provide real-time insights to management
  • Implement insights that allow the company to monitor and optimize relationships with brokers, capacity providers, and other stakeholders
  • Consolidate metrics to form a Group-wide view of underwriting performance
  • Facilitate underwriting data requests from external stakeholders such as investors
  • Horizon scan for next-generation analytical capabilities that could offer the company a commercial advantage
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of data analytics and KPIs used to manage underwriting performance in a multi-national insurance company
  • Knowledge of underwriting processes and pricing models in specialty markets
  • At least 5 years (re)insurance experience, with time spent within an analytical function (e.g. actuarial, portfolio management, catastrophe modelling, financial analysis)
  • Demonstrable track record delivering impactful insights to senior underwriting stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and present solutions to senior stakeholders
  • Consultative and collaborative style - actively listens to the views of colleagues, but also has the strength of character to challenge where required
  • Adept user of Microsoft Office suite. Strong SQL and Excel (including VBA) skills. Familiarity with Power BI and one or more coding languages is an advantage
  • An appreciation of key actuarial processes including reserving, rate change and premium adequacy analysis
  • Strong commercial acumen and stays abreast with current issues affecting the industry
  • Pragmatic – able to translate data analytics to business stakeholders and strong at identifying solutions and/or solving problems
  • A keen eye for detail and ability to consistently deliver high accuracy work in a timely manner
  • Highly organised, with good planning, prioritisation and time management skills
