About the Role

The British Science Association is seeking a skilled Building Manager to join our team for the British Science Festival 2024. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of events within your allocated venue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Festival Assistants, members of the public, and the BSA Operations Team.
  • Use initiative to solve problems as they arise, with assistance from the BSA Operations Team and other Building Managers as required.
  • Liaise with the BSA Operations Team to escalate problems and complete tasks as necessary to ensure the festival runs smoothly.
  • Manage a team of Festival Assistants within your venue, ensuring they complete all necessary tasks, including scheduling.
  • Assist Festival Assistants in ensuring events within your venue run smoothly.
  • Assist with evacuation and access procedures, as well as fire-marshalling, as required by your venue (training provided).
Requirements
  • Experience of volunteering at or attending previous science festivals.
  • Experience of event management.
What We Offer

As a Building Manager with the British Science Association, you will gain valuable experience in event and temporary staff management, develop leadership skills, and gain insight into how a large event works behind the scenes.

Terms and Conditions

The Building Managers will work at the British Science Festival in Stratford and the Docklands from 11-15 September 2024 and will be required to attend an overnight training course in the week prior to the festival, where they will receive full training in evacuation and access procedures, as well as an introduction to all the venues on campus.

The training days on Sunday 8 and Monday 9 September will be paid at £15 per hour, and the BSA will provide overnight accommodation in Exeter if required and reimburse reasonable travel costs incurred in attending the training day.

The BSA will not be covering travel, accommodation, or subsistence costs for the duration of the festival, but can provide information about accommodation if required.
