About the Role

The British Science Association is seeking a skilled Building Manager to oversee the smooth operation of the British Science Festival 2024. As a key member of the festival team, you will be responsible for ensuring the success of the event by managing a team of Festival Assistants and coordinating logistics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Festival Assistants, members of the public, and the BSA Operations Team.
  • Use initiative to solve problems as they arise, with assistance from the BSA Operations Team and other Building Managers as required.
  • Liaise with the BSA Operations Team to escalate problems and complete tasks as required to ensure the smooth running of the Festival.
  • Manage Festival Assistants within your venue and ensure they complete all necessary tasks, including responsibility for assistant's schedules.
  • Assist Festival Assistants in ensuring events within your venue run smoothly.
  • Assist with evacuation and access, in addition to fire-marshalling, as required by your venue (training provided).
Requirements
  • Experience of volunteering at or attending previous science festivals.
  • Experience of event management.
What We Offer

The British Science Association is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive work environment. As a Building Manager, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in event management, while contributing to the success of the British Science Festival.

Terms and Conditions

The Building Managers will be working at the British Science Festival in Stratford and the Docklands, and will be required to attend an overnight training course in the week prior to the Festival. The BSA will provide full training in evacuation and access as required by their venue, as well as an introduction to all the venues on campus.

The BSA will not be covering travel, accommodation, or subsistence costs for the duration of the Festival, but can provide information about accommodation if required.
